What is the European Book Club? The Austrian, Czech, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish cultural institutes in New York City have joined together to create a European Book Club. The Club meets monthly in a different cultural institute and discusses a well-known, contemporary novel of the respective country, translated into English.   Is the European Book Club a year-round event? No, this year (2009) the European Book Club will start in March and ends in November. No session will be held in July and August.   Where do the sessions take place? Sessions take place in New York City, in the libraries of the participating European cultural institutes.  Is there a limit to the number of sessions I can attend? No, you can participate in all the sessions.   How much do I have to pay to participate? Participation to the European Book Club is free, no matter how many sessions you register for. All you have to do is register with us, then buy or borrow a copy of the book(s) you want to discuss.   How do I register for each session? Send an email to the address displayed on the web page of each countries you are interested in.   How do I register for all the sessions? Registering for all of the sessions is no different than signing up for one. You have to contact each country individually. The Internet address of each country will be displayed on the country's page.   I have registered for a session, when should I read the book? You should read the entire book before the session meets.   I could not finish reading the book before the session. Should I still come? Absolutely. Naturally, it is preferable to have finished the book before the session, but you are still welcome to attend to and participate in the session.   Where could I find more European books in translation? Over time, each participating country will post on its page a bibliography of European titles recently translated in English.   I do not find the answer to my question here. How can I contact you? Send us an email at contacts@europeanbookclub.org
